Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy

The Project Horse Empowerment Center, located in Purcellville, Virginia, helps individuals with depression, anxiety and other social and behavioral issues. In a “community of mutual healing, benefit, respect and compassion,” clients and rehabilitated rescue horses engage in equine assisted therapy and experiential education. Individuals may learn to pet a horse or lead it through an obstacle course, creating a sense of calm control that will benefit them in the future.

Project Horse provides services for individuals, groups and families. If you already see a psychiatrist or therapist, Project Horse’s clinicians will collaborate with him or her to meet your treatment goals. Many of Project Horse’s clients are under 18 years old and benefit from seeking treatment in a more natural environment, outside of a traditional therapy setting.

Requiring no prior experience with horses, Project Horse does not include riding. Therapy groups meet once a week at specific times. Fees vary based upon the program chosen and individuals’ treatment needs. Sessions typically are led by a licensed therapist and a Certified Equine Specialist and, since Project Horse has both indoor and outdoor spaces, they are held rain or shine. For insurance purposes, Project Horse is an out-of-network provider.

Project Horse is one of the only equine therapy centers in America that focuses exclusively on mental health and wellness. For more information, contact Project Horse at (703) 517-6964 or Info@ProjectHorse.org.
